We invite you to join us for our 2008-2009 season of inspiring, joyful singing!
Our informational meeting (parent and child) and first sing-together will be Monday night, 25 August at 7 p.m. at St. Timothy's Church in north Raleigh; the first rehearsal will be Monday, 8 September. See the Joining the Choir page for full details.
Our Mission:
The mission of Christe Lux Mundi is to provide an opportunity for young singers to hone their musical and interpretative skills and deepen their faith through the performance of the great choral works of the Christian tradition, from unaccompanied to instrumentally-accompanied extended works.
Our Members:
Qualifications for becoming a chorister in Christe Lux Mundi:
- Be in 6th grade (or 11 years old) through undergraduate age.
(We work in the manner of a European youth choir where the more developed singers provide role models for the younger while performing great music together.)
- A love of singing.
- Basic vocal ability; prior choral experience is not necessary.
- Willingness to work hard, be joyful, and have fun while learnng.
- Willingness to strive for personal and ensemble excellence as part of one's spiritual and musical development.
- A commitment to the rehearsal/performance schedule.
Singers from all school/homeschool and church affliliations are welcome. Our first year's membership included members from seven schools (homeschools, public, and private) and six churches, and one of our goals is to deliberately bring together singers from different backgrounds to foster friendships and mutual growth in our Christian walk.
Male singers at all stages of vocal development (treble, changing, or fully changed) are encouraged to join; they will be placed in a section(s) according to their stage of vocal development and receive supportive targeted coaching.
Rehearsals include group voice training and sequential sight-singing and theory training. We have been using a combination of Kodaly solfege, A Voice for Life, (the chorister-training program of the Royal School of Church Music, a proven method for teaching amateurs how to be excellent musicians), and exercises in vocal technique taken from 18th and 19th century bel canto vocal methods. In addition, we use web-based cutting-edge technology to support the singers in learning the music and developing as well-trained musical artists [and save trees through printing on demand]. (See our Resources page for examples!)

We have been asked to consider starting a similar group for grades 2-5. If you would be interested, please e-mail Dr. Warren at the link above.
Our History:
Christe Lux Mundi was formed in September AD 2004. Our first public event was on Sunday, January 18, AD 2004, when we led the worship and performed several anthems at the 11 a.m. Holy Communion service at St. Timothy's. It was a wonderful experience of worship together in a very traditional setting where classical music is a beloved part of worship, and members of the congregation expressed how meaningful our offerings were (as well as how beautiful, especially for so small a group!) The Lord blessed us immensely that morning and used us to bless others.
We presented our first full concert on Saturday, June 5 at St. Timothy's Church in Raleigh to an audience of approximately 55 family members, friends, and music-lovers. The group sang wonderfully, accompanied by organ, flute, clarinet, recorder, and handbells. We had a fun group meal afterwards at Ruby Tuesday's.
During our later seasons, we have led the worship and performed several anthems at liturgies at St. Timothy's (our gift to the congregation for hosting us rent-free) and performed concerts in early June. We hope to expand our singing to include several churches of other denominations during our 2008-09 season.
